Uncharted - Drake's Fortune Review

Sony has had a somewhat arduous year with the PlayStation 3 in 2007. Much of this is due in part of exclusives like Halo 3, Mass Effect, and BioShock going to the Xbox 360. This is exacerbated by the fact that Sony is losing exclusive rights to games such as Devil May Cry 4, Resident Evil 5, and Grand Theft Auto IV. Furthermore, Metal Gear Solid 4 has been delayed until the year 2008. Many gamers thought that Sony was done and should bow down to Microsoft; however, the PlayStation 3 has injected new life into Sony recently.

After the PlayStation 3 price reduction down to $400, the sales of PlayStation 3's have increased. Moreover, there are PlayStation 3 exclusives such as Heavenly Sword and Ratchet & Clank: Future Tools of Destruction that are worth playing. Luckily, things are finally looking bright for Sony. Sony appears to be on the right track and heading in the right direction. This is conspicuously seen from their biggest PlayStation 3 game this 2007 holiday season in Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.

The storyline in this game revolves around Nathan Drake and his allies. They are on a quest for a treasure; consequently, they get lost in an island in the Pacific Ocean. Now, Nathan and his acquaintances have every intention to escape from this retched island because they are being chased by deadly mercenaries. Naughty Dog definitely delivers the goods when it comes to the storyline. The plot is compelling and is not as predictable as some games might be. The gameplay has aspects from a typical third person shooter with a twist. This twist being that you will be doing more than gunning down adversaries.

Gamers will have to play through some fairly unique platform jumping elements as well. There is a peek around the corner technique that is eerily similar to Gears of War. Mr. Drake can utilize cover by putting his back against the wall and squatting down. Blindfiring is also another gameplay mechanic that was heavily influenced from a game like Gears of War. This is of course when you are hiding behind cover and firing without exposing yourself. The platform jumping is analogous to a game like Prince of Persia. Drake does not seem athletic, but looks can be deceiving. He can perform the most acrobatic maneuvers when he is airborne.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune boasts stunning visuals across the board. The textures are clean, and the flora is grandiose. Lighting and architecture are just a few of many things that are amazing in this game. In addition to the gunfire, there is a few moments in the game where Nathan can use his arms and legs in combat. The pro of correctly executing a combination attack is more ammunition, but the con is that failing will net you nothing in return and a loss of health. There is nothing too extravagant about the weapons in the game. They range from the rudimentary handguns to the explosive grenades. Drake can also traverse his way through the environment with his mobility. He knows how to climb large obstacles, swing across a gap by using a rope, and jump from one ledge to another ledge with ease. The controls are responsive and never deter players from enjoying the game. Replenishing health is done simply by standing still and waiting (ala Gears of War).

Fortunately, all of Drake's actions are easily done. The only two flaws with the game are the animations and length. There were occasional sequences where foes do not exactly act accordingly after they are hit. This resulted in awkward and unrealistic physics. Opponents will not perform the electric slide, but it was odd to see an enemy fly around in a eccentric manner. Another gripe with the game is the nine hour length. A game that succinct needs more gameplay. Even though the game is concise, the gameplay itself is engrossing. The audio in the game really made the plot come together. Voice acting is superb and not over the top. The sound of Drake reloading his gun has a tactile feel to it. Water falling down to the ground have a different sounding fluctuation to them.

Overall, there is no doubt that Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is the best PlayStation 3 exclusive that PlayStation 3 owners will greatly admire. The intriguing storyline overrides the few minor glitches in the game.

Final Verdict: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is a very good game.

The Pros and Cons of the Playstation 3 - PS3

With lots of hype and opinion on what's good and what's bad on the ps3, here is some unbiased information regarding this console. If you're thinking of buying a ps3 and can't decide, this may just help.

Ok, first of all I know I said "unbiased" but I have to say straight off that the ps3, in my opinion is absolutely superb and I refer mainly to its graphics. If you read other people's opinions, most if not all, will say that the graphics are outstanding.

Normally though, there are pros and cons with everything aren't there? If pushed, even a salesperson would have to admit that his or her product has down sides - nothing is perfect, surely?

The Playstation 3, or ps3 as it's very often known, is no exception. The pros first then.

I'll say it again - the graphics have to be number 1 on the list of pros. I mean they are just superb. If there are better graphics out there, I for one have not seen them.

With the ps3 there's an onboard Bluray DVD drive able to hold more information than a standard DVD disc. The Xbox 360 certainly supports Bluray but it doesn't come with the package - with the ps3 it does!

The games for ps3 are truly superb. Not my opinion only, just check on the internet for feedback.

The ps3 comes with a motion sensitive controller but this is not as advanced as the one from Nintendo. With the ps3 controller you are still really stuck on your butt doing much the same as if it were not motion sensitive.

Load of space on this thing with around 40 to 60 GB! Wow!

The cons?

Not many cons. Both in my opinion and in most reviews.

It is evident though that the first of the cons is the price at around £299. Its competitor, the Wii is around £179. £300 is a lot of money to fork out and of course you need the games to play the ps3.

Programming the ps3 might, if you're a newbie, be a little difficult to get your head around.

Many a person have stated in reviews and elsewhere that the lack of a rumble feature on the controller is a disappointment. It takes just a tad of excitement off the edge of gaming. It may not be a problem to you, especially if it's your first console and in the light of that you may not consider this to be one of the cons.

Some may argue that the pros and cons weigh each other out and that the bottom line is, the ps3 is just superb! That may be. But the decision now is yours.

How to Find Out What is the Best LCD TV

If you are thinking of having a home theater, then it is a great idea to have an LCD TV. An LCD TV has a wide screen which makes you feel that you are part of the movie that you are watching. Of course, if you are decided to buy an LCD TV you would certainly want the best one that you can get. Having a home theater is one of the best things life can offer especially if you are fond of movie marathons. Here are some tips in choosing the best LCD TV:

1. Do not buy used LCD TVs. You never know what could be wrong with that used LCD TV. Yes, you had a great deal with it. You thought it was a great buy. But it can go wrong along the way and instead of being able to spend, you will have to buy another TV. After all, you can find good price for a brand new LCD TV and it is better since you will assured that it is going to work out the way you expect it to.

2. Know the features of the LCD TV. Quality must not be sacrificed for quantity. Normally when we shop, we usually look at the price first. However, it is also important to pay attention to the features. Make sure that the price that you are going to pay for the LCD TV will be worth your money.

3. Canvass prices. Compare prices in different stores. It is also important to do this if you want to be able to get the best LCD TV. Different stores may have different prices. So do some survey on other stores first because the LCD TV that you want to buy might be priced cheaper at another store. In this way, you will be able to save more money.
Keep these three things in mind when buying an LCD TV and you will surely not regret it.

Samsung HD LCD TV - Answering the LCD Vs LED Question

What is the question in the LCD vs. LED debate? Quality versus price and mobility are the two main champs in the debate and both are evident in Samsung's current lineup of Samsung HD LCD tv models and Samsung LED tv models.

LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) utilizes liquid crystal "panels" that manipulate ambient light to produce a picture. To be clearer on the subject, these are not huge panels like you would think, but very small ones. In the absence of ambient, or "room light," LCD TVs have to use back lighting. The downside is that these panels are not capable of completely blacking out the back lighting for optimum contrast. In other words, if it's midnight at the POW camp on your TV, the guy trying to escape might be a little "fuzzy" around the edges. What's more, your "midnight black" will most likely look a little purple because the crystals can't completely block out the light needed to show our hero on the screen. Samsung HD LCD TV eliminates this by having developed a system of software and a screen "polarizer" that cuts back on bleed-over light, thus giving a blacker black.

LED (Light Emitting Diode) is nearly a throwback to the old school "tube" TVs. Instead of using three colored proton guns though, HDTV LED TVs use very small LED lights. The same type you use in that nifty wind-up flashlight you got for Father's Day. (Or not-tell your kids you want one if you don't know what one is.) The up-side of Samsung LED TVs is that the blacks are blacker. The reason for this is that when a light is out, it is out. There is no bleed over from the light next to it. Thus you have a blacker, more clearly defined picture. LED TV uses four colored lights; two green, one blue and one red. Using different combinations of this lighting produces your color spectrum. This blows out the competing LCDs by allowing more vivid color. Samsung HD LCD TV compromised on this when they began installing LED lights for backlighting and it paid off. The product was the color range of LCD with the blackness capability of LED.

Both types suffer from motion blurring, but LCD has lost this war battle marginally-especially at the HD level. The three most common causes for this are:

- Pixels move faster than color can respond.
- The speed of the movie-what speed it was shot in
- The human eye's ability to track speed

The new series of Samsung LCD flat panel addresses this and using a combination of software and firmware, they've been able to increase their refresh rate by four times. In other words, it would be the difference between a flip book and a 35mm home movie projector. Or for the younger generation, it's the same as getting four times the frame rate.

The big differences between LCD and LED are price. Because of it being a newer technology, LED tends to be pricier than LCDs and a bit lighter. Samsung HD LCD TV offers an alternative that is cheaper than LED, has better quality than many traditional LCDs of competitors.

How To Download A New Playstation 2 Game

Do you want a new playstation 2 game? Buying Games from your local shop can be expensive and a lot of the time new games can be sold out. Is there a way to download a brand new playstation 2 game off the net? And is it legal? You can of course download torrents but this is illegal and can result in you getting caught. So whats the alternative?

There are sites where you pay a monthly fee and join a P2P (person to person) network. You can then download new playstation 2 games from other people on the network. But when that person signs out your game stops downloading. Not Good! But there are sites where you pay a small one time fee and get access to there database of games forever.

Is it ethical? Most of the time the sites will pay royalties for the games your downloading and still have cheap downloads because you are the burning them onto CD or DVD yourself. PS2 (playstation 2) games are the easiest to get hold of and download as the games are a lot easier to download and burn.

So which is the best to use? Some sites are better than others and keep there database of games up to date whenever new games come out. Where as some sites will take your fee off you only for you to find that the games on the site are years old. Have a good look at the site before parting with your money. You'll see which ones are legit.

There are sites that also have games on other platforms (Xbox, Nintendo) along with movie and song downloads available as well as brand new playstation 2 games.

For more information & reviews of some of the best sites to use when downloading new playstation 2 games go to http://www.squidoo.com/download-ps2-game

Is The Hitachi 32LD9700 LCD TV Possibly The Best Flat Screen TV Available?

From its infancy and the first shadowy images broadcast in 1925, viewing television has evolved and certainly changed over the years to the amazing LCD TV sets that we now view today. Ask most people to list their most essential item or possession and a large number will list their TV as very high up on the list.

Much like the conventional approach to driving a car and our understanding of how the Internal Combustion Engine works (or not depending on your point of view) very few people understand entirely what happens behind the screen of a TV or do they? The word television is derived from a mixed usage of Greek and Latin roots meaning in literary terms "far sight" and being derived from the Greek term "tele" meaning "far" and the Latin "vision" meaning "sight" or "to view in the first person".

As in most industries, along with technological development and innovation has arisen a large range of technical descriptions and phrases that if the truth be known confuses most people.

Rather than continue with a basic history of the industry, it might be best to stop and take a look at the latest developments within the industry mainly that of digital television, what digital television actually means, its formats, bandwidth and the technical terminology and jargon used today.

How would you define Digital TV? Digital Television very much came to the fore in the late 1990s and is a technology that appealed to the television broadcasting business and consumer electronics industries as representing opportunities for increased financial development whilst at the same time providing a much cleaner and faster product and service for the end user.

So in basic terms, how does a Digital TV differ from a more conventional one? Let us use one of the newer LCD TV's available to help us as we detail what exactly this all means.

The LCD TV that we shall use for our illustrative purposes here is the Hitachi 32LD9700 LCD TV.

The following items of information have to be understood before you can make a proper valued judgement regarding your new Digital TV?

Firstly we have to understand the phrase Screen Resolution and all of that implies. In this case it refers to the number of distinct pixels in each dimension that can be displayed.

Next up is whether the TV is Hi-Definition Ready and what does this mean? Hi Definition TV essentially makes a TV picture in a quality format that is at least four times better than conventionally available at present.

The next item that we would need to look at is what types of connectors are used between the peripherals used alongside the main Digital TV?

We are referring here to the exact nature and number of the Scarts Sockets and Plugs in use. SCART stands for "Syndicat francais des Constructeurs d'Appareils Radio et Television (SCART).

Lastly on the technical side we would need to look at what types and what numbers of High-Definition Multimedia Interfaces (HDMI) are being used. Here High Definition Multimedia Interfaces (HDMI) refers to the audio/video connector interface that transmits the uncompressed digital streams of information between two or more digital components such as a HD DVD Disc player, a Blu-ray Disc player, a Personal Computer or Video Console.

The 32LD9700 is a 32in LCD TV and the prices for these are around 1000 pounds sterling or 2000 US dollars. The resolution of the screen is 1366 X 768 and with regards to being HD Ready the answer is yes. The Hitachi has 3 (2 RGB) scarts and the type and number of Multimedia interfaces the 32LD9700 uses is HDMI and 2. The type of Tuner for this TV is Analogue and Digital and the Hitachi is available from a wide variety of outlets.

All these points being taken into consideration, how would we view the Hitachi 32LD9700?

The most obvious place to start with as far as TV's are concerned would be the picture quality and our score here would be 10, and closely tied in to the picture quality is the sound quality and our score for this would be 10. Taking a look at the number of relevant connections and their availability, our score would be 8. As far as overall features are concerned we would give it 10 and for ease of use and overall value for money we would give it, 10 and 10 respectively.

The overall verdict would be WOW what can you say but that this is one of those TV's that excel in almost every thing it is supposed to do. Described as a "Superb All-rounder", there is not much that this TV does not achieve. If you can get your hands on one of these then go for it.

Please bear in mind the prices that are quoted in this article and take note that they are there purely for illustration and though valid at the time of the writing of the article may vary from time to time and also depending on the time of year when you make your purchase.

Stephen Morgan writes quite regularly on the Internet about TV and Home Entertainment issues and more on the above can be found at cheap LCD flat screen TVs and also at http://bestflatscreentv.biz

PlayStation 3 80 GB

PlayStation 3 80 GB Review

They've made it better, stronger, faster, they have the technology.br /br /You just can't beat rolling a blue ray player into a game console. It's been years since it's release and (good) blue ray players are still priced from 0 on the low end to +0 at price-hiked retail stores. I've backed up all my DVDs on to an external hard drive and put them in storage, and now I can watch any of them through the system. Oh, and Netflix works on it now as well, I've been watching Faulty Towers(sp?). Lastly, the gaming aspect of it holds some of the best exclusive games. Uncharted 2 for example walks the realism line now with 1080p high definition. When you cut out the price of Microsoft's Xbox360's accessories, Online membership and controllers that "Omnomnom" all the batteries, the extra (?) retail cost of the PS3 starts to make sense. I previously owned two Xbox360s, they both broke down after about a year, during that time I also broke two controllers. each Dual Shock 3(ps3) controller is rechargeable with USB2.0 and has incredible distance. I was lucky enough to get 2 of them with my purchase. I was pleased to find the connections are the industry standard HDMI cables, so there was no 'special PS3' connectors I needed to buy for Hi-Definition TV's. It's also very quiet and the new model (slim) makes even less noise.br /br /I guess what I'm trying to say is I got a next-gen console for about , thanks!

New Playstation 2 Games - Downloading Ps2 Games Online

Do you still buy your console games from the local shop? Now the playstation 3 has been released the games for older consoles are cheaper than ever, especially used games. But is this the cheapest and easiest way to get your games? Walking to your local gaming shop only to find they haven't got the game you're after?

These days, with broadband internet becoming more and more popular it's a lot cheaper and easier to download your ps2 games online. It's a lot easier to click a few mouse buttons then burn the game to CD than it is to go buy the game. You could be downloading a new game whilst you're playing another one!

But is this legal? Downloading from certain P2P (person to person) networks and from certain sites does break copy write laws. So you have to be careful where you download from. But some sites, you can pay a small one time fee (about the price of one game!) and get lifetime access to there constantly updating database full of PS2 Games. Some even have music and movies as well.

These sites are easy to use, you just log on, search for the game your after, click to download then burn off to CD. Simple! So which sites should you use? There are a lot out there you should definitely avoid. Some have out dated database, which do not get updated regularly, so you will not be able to get the newer games.

Do you want all the games you can handle without ever leaving your home? Check out http://www.squidoo.com/download-ps2-game for more information

VIZIO VX240M 24-Inch Full HD 1080p LCD HDTV

VIZIO VX240M 24-Inch Full HD 1080p LCD HDTV Review

As a future college student, I have looked for, researched, and tried out many small HDTV's to use as a computer monitor/HDTV for my dorm room. The employees at Best Buy stated that if a TV wasn't over 46 inches big, you couldn't tell the difference between 1080p and 720p. However, he didn't know what he was saying. At relatively far distances (i.e. normal watching distance for most TV's) the difference between 1080p and 720p is small to none. However, from a short distance (like 4 feet for a 42 inch, or 1.5 feet for a 24 inch) you can easily tell the difference in resolution. This is where this T.V. comes in. As a computer monitor, I will be close up to the screen, reading tiny text like the text in this review! Now that the main issue has been sorted out, it's onto the main review:br /br / Contrast-5000:1 may seem like a big number, but that is only dynamic. Although I couldn't find the static/typical contrast, it is probably around 900-1000. However, since this set has a relatively low brightness (300 cd/m2), blacks looked blacker than normal, which is a good thing.br /br / Resolution- 1080p...enough said!br /br / Motion- 5 ms means that button presses on any device (like a keyboard or game console) happen with only an unnoticable .05 second delay, which is lightning fast. However, since there is no 120Hz, there will be noticeable motion blur on extremely fast action scenes. This tv is relatively small, so motion blur won't be a big problem for normal watching and gaming.br /br / Feature Set/Presentation- since this is an ECO HDTV, it uses far less power than previous models, if your into the whole energy saving thing. SRS TruSurround is always a good thing for making movies and other sounds "pop" but when that program is run through 3 Watt speakers, you can't expect much. The 3D comb filter, now standard with many HDTV's, helped to put out a wide color scheme; at least that's what my friends said they saw, I'm colorblind, so color gamut specs really don't apply to me. The white/black look touches off my 360, but it can only match with so many things.br /br / Overall Value- for a little over 0, you get full 1080p, a relatively "large-small-screen" great for a computer monitor, and the confidence that you got another good HDTV from Vizio.br /br / Hope you liked the review!br /br /br /

Vizio VO370M 37" LCD TV 1080p HDTV

Vizio VO370M 37" LCD TV 1080p HDTV Review

Otherwise either go bigger (such as a 1080p projector) or just get a higher contrast 720p display. That said...br /br /Still wowed at how good the new LCDs are. A year or two with an Olevia 37" I thought was great compared at home with this new Vizio 37" 1080P downstairs: Damn. All I had to do was put everything in the middle setting, sharpness on 5 (out of 7), turn off all the processing and features, and put the backlight at about 10-20 to get the whites bright enough, or higher for brighter rooms. And the in-content blacks are still inky. It renders the entire contrast and color range faithfully except for a little laziness in the middle of the dynamic range curve that can seem "smoky" on some older video mastering jobs (you truly need CRT, Plasma, or exotics to get it perfect). And it doesn't have to be excruciatingly bright like the Olevias. That 237t-t12 even at it's lowest of three crude backlight settings still is kind of blinding in bright scenes, and I have the Brightness down to the point at which the blacks do not get blacker but I can still barely see the foot of the contrast curve. br /br /That continuously adjustable backlight on the new screens is essential. Combined with better real native (not the dynamic software) contrast, and I am floored. And it was 0 cheaper than the Olevia originally! The only thing I'm troubled with is the promotion of this dynamic contrast mode so much in an effort to compete with Plasmas. I think the contrast really is getting good enough on these 37" LCDs that it doesn't need to hide it. Again, there's still obviously room for improvement as Dark City and the Fifth Element still aren't quite filmy yet in their gorgeous contrast rendition on any LCD I've seen yet, but it's getting there. At a higher cost, the newest multi-LED-based screens allow even more control over the backlight, but the only time I see any non-uniformity is on a completely blank, black screen with a very slight flashlight effect in the upper right. Much less than the 237t-t12. Now I must start worrying about upgrading the computer to have the horsepower to get one of these for my upstairs system! X-Plane or Blackshark in 1080P just isn't going to happen on a P4.br /

Vizio VO370M 37" LCD TV 1080p HDTV Feature

  • 1920 x 1080 native resolution for powerful, clear performance.
  • Integrated ATSC/Clear QAM Tuner for HDTV broadcast reception.
  • Contrast ratio of 15000:1 for beautiful color depth.
  • 500 cd/m2 brightness high luminance display for brighter picture.
  • Wide screen aspect ratio (16:9) for a complete home theater experience.

Vizio VO370M 37" LCD TV 1080p HDTV Overview

With Full HD you get razor sharp clarity, crisp and clear images and an absolutely amazing viewing experience. The chic textured finish of this 37" ECO HDTV sets it apart the rest. Consuming less energy than traditional HDTVs, it exceeds current Energy Star Guidelines by at least 15%. PlayStation 3 120 GB

PlayStation 3 120 GB Review

1st off I'd like to thank all the reviewer's on this forum for your reviews. On the whole they were highly informative. No way anyone could read this forum and not come away with more than enough information to make a highly informed buying decision.br /br /A. Dent "Aragon" I've gotta give you a gold star in particular for your review. Well done! You covered the key feature and spec differences nicely and I'd like to build on your review, if I may, from a philosophical mindset POV.br /br /Some background.br /br /I'm a software developer of some years. I grew up with MS. I've been developing with their products since DOS 2.0 :D. I'm an MS boy through and through. pfft, Of course my cell runs Windows Mobile. Ya, Win Mobile has given me fits a time or two, ;), but I doubt I'll ever own a phone that doesn't run Win Mobile.br /br /I know exactly who MS is. Back in the day they kinda sucked on more than a couple levels but even then, they were still the best software company in the business. Not only has that not changed in my mind but there's no doubt to me that they are currently better at what they do than they've ever been. br /br /Sure, there's any number of SW developers out there working for other companies who are every bit as good as any MS developer out there and oft times better but eh... br /br /At this point, there's no other software company in the world even remotely close to where MS is at in terms of maturity and quality. When I look at what Win 7 is coupled with Visual Studio and the .net 3.5 development platform, eh, those 2 things have always been the heart and soul of who MS is and those 2 things are currently rocking it harder than they ever have, no doubts. br /br /I've always been a hard core gamer in the PC FPS world. So naturally I've known the xBox and played games on the xBox since it's inception. br /br /I'm just saying, I've never owned an xBox. I've known at least 6 peeps with xBoxes. Of those 6, 4 of their boxes failed. Two of them went the RROD route, another had some internal disk failure, and the other had some funky internal connection problem. None of those boxes lasted a year. All of the owners I know went through varying degrees of rig-a-ma-roll trying to get their boxes fixed and/or replaced.br /br /The HW issues and the reasons behind the xboxes unreliability are pretty well documented. Because MS decided to farm out manufacturing early on for the xbox they never really had any true quality control over the product they were tossing out to consumers. They never had a handle. They still don't have all that much of a handle now. Given what I know about MS from the SW world and the fact that they are brand new to the HW biz ...eh, to this day I'm not feeling compelled to pick up an xbox. And no, it's not hardly about money. br /br /To be fair, I am an FPS kinda guy. There's still never been a console + controller + game created that affords me the precision and control in the FPS genre that WASD on a keyboard and a mouse does. I'm still waiting for one? br /br /As I speak I think everyone who owns an xbox today or buys an xbox tomorrow is STILL an early adopter. As it happens I do have more than a passing familiarity with that dynamic. I've dealt and deal with MS product continually every single day. Like I'm saying, I know who MS is. I know how much research and dev went into the xbox.br /br /Speaking strictly within the framework of the FPS gaming genre, I think the xbox is currently the best console platform out there. As well it should be. And it starts with the box and the controller. While the xbox was not designed specifically for Halo, the thinking behind the box, gpu, and the controller were absolutely designed to optimize any and every FPS gaming experience created for the xbox platform. Again, who can argue with that strategy? In the video game industry, what's the best selling genre? br /br /I truly believe MS has the right idea about the console platform in terms of the idea of the overall gaming experience. Also, no doubt to me that various XBL$ issues aside, the XBL platform is superior to the PSN platform as I post. br /br /From MS's inception they've always been many things but fundamentally stupid and obstinate has never really been their hallmark. At least not for long. MS is a whole lot like the Borg. If you've got half a clue about anything they will consume your uniqueness and add it to their own.br /br /The above said I think the xbox 360 controller currently implements a design that exploits the FPS genre best. br /br /To also be fair to the PS platform, from the very beginning the PS controller in all it's incarnations was never designed to exploit any specific gaming genre. The PS controller has always been designed to cast a much broader net across gaming genre's.br /br /So the question remains, given the fact that I am and will always be an MS boy, why is it I've never ever owned an xbox? Why was my very 1st console purchase evar this slimboy PS3?br /br /Heheh, it's really a no brainier for me. This PS3 is absolutely THE best media center on the market today. br /br /Nothing else comes close to the PS3 at this price point given what it can do. I've already got a PC for serious gaming. That said I'm about to explore the latest exclusive PS3 gaming titles to eval where the state of the art is really at. br /br /Seriously, the xbox comes closest for about an initial 50-150+ but even then the xbox can't output any media in any format at 1080p. See, for me? That right there is a deal breaker. br /br /MS can KMA right now. The xbox is not there yet. br /br /I think MS might still be butt hurt to this day behind choosing the wrong side in the HD war. Whatever? Until they ship with Blu-Ray and built in WiFi at a competitiver price AND they can deliver a reliable abd quality product they're dead to me in this market segment. :)br /br /

Loaded with a mix of multimedia features and functions available on earlier PlayStation 3 models, as well as a series of new advancements and refinements, the PlayStation 3 120GB system is destined to push the envelope in the realm of Next-Generation entertainment. style type="text/css" .caption { font-family: Verdana, Helvetica neue, Arial, serif; font-size: 10px; font-weight: bold; font-style: italic; } ul.indent { list-style: inside disc; text-indent: -15px; } table.callout { font-family: verdana; font-size: 11px; line-height: 1. 3em; } td.vgoverview { height: 125px; background: #9DC4D8 url(http://images.amazon.com/images/G/01/electronics/detail-page/callout-bg.png) repeat-x; border-left: 1px solid #999999; border-right: 1px solid #999999; padding-left: 20px; padding-right: 20px; padding-bottom: 10px; width: 250px; font-family: verdana; font-size: 12px; } /stylep/table align=left width=265 cellpadding=0trtd valign="top"img alt="The PS3 logo" title="The PS3 logo" src="http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/videogames/detail-page/B002I0J4VQ.logo.250.jpg" border=0 align=top width="250" height="36"/td/tablebWhat's Under the Hood/bbr/ As with previous models, the PlayStation 3 120GB system features an IBM "Cell" processor and a co-developed NVIDIA graphics processor that together allow the system to perform two trillion calculations per second. Yet the 120GB system manages to improve on this with its 45nm version of the processor, which although running at the same 60+nm speed as previous PS3 versions, uses less energy. This makes the unit's smaller size and quieter fan possible. Along with the traditional AV and composite connections, the 120GB system also boasts an HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) port, which delivers uncompressed, unconverted digital picture and sound to compatible high-definition TVs and projectors. (The system is capable of 128-bit pixel precision and 1080p resolution for a full HD experience) This console also provides for an extreme sound experience by supporting Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS 5.1, as well as Linear PCM 7.1. Finally, it features cross connectivity with your PC network and PlayStation Portable (PSP) and its pre-installed, 120GB hard disc drive allows you to save games as well as download content from The Internet. Unlike The some other models of The PlayStation 3, The 120GB system does not offer backwards compatibility. p/table align=right width=310 cellpadding=10trtd valign="top"div align="center"img alt="The PlayStation 3 120GB and included Dualshock 3 controller" title="The PlayStation 3 120GB and included Dualshock 3 controller" src="http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/videogames/detail-page/B002I0J4VQ.01.sm.jpg" border=0 align=top width="300" height="336"br/divcenterspan class="caption"The same functionality now in a smaller, more quiet and energy efficient packagebr/ View larger./span/center/td/trtrtd valign="top" height="211"div align="center"img alt="The upright height of previous PS3 models compared to the smaller of PlayStation 3 120GB system" title="The upright height of previous PS3 models compared to the smaller of PlayStation 3 120GB system" src="http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/videogames/detail-page/B002I0J4VQ.02.sm.jpg" border=0 align=top width="300" height="164"br/divcenterspan class="caption"Space saving when placed upright...br/ View larger./span/center/td/trtrtd valign="top" height="110"div align="center"img alt="The horizontal height of previous PS3 models compared to the smaller of PlayStation 3 120GB system" title="The horizontal height of previous PS3 models compared to the smaller of PlayStation 3 120GB system" src="http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/videogames/detail-page/B002I0J4VQ.03.sm.jpg" border=0 align=top width="300" height="65"br/divcenterspan class="caption"As well as when horizontalbr/ View larger./span/center/td/trtrtd valign="top" height="211"div align="center"img alt="The PlayStation 3 120GB system's textured finish" title="The PlayStation 3 120GB system's textured finish" src="http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/videogames/detail-page/B002I0J4VQ.04.sm.jpg" border=0 align=top width="300" height="297"br/divcenterspan class="caption"A textured, no fingerprint finishbr/ View larger./span/center/td/tr/tablebBlu-ray, PlayStation Network Downloads and Beyond/bbr PlayStation 3 utilizes The Blu-ray disc media format, which gives you The best high-definition viewing experience on your television, by way of The format's ability to hold six times as much data as traditional DVDs. 3 Red Flashing Lights on Xbox 360 - Fix Them in Under 2 Hours

Those annoying glowing lights that have appeared on your Xbox 360's are there to signal that your console has stopped working properly. This could be due to overheating, or a general hardware failure such as a loose graphics processor. Those 3 red flashing lights on your Xbox 360 can be fixed with a little bit of work - soon you will be playing your favorite games once more.

Before you can fix the 3 red flashing lights on your Xbox 360, it's important to properly understand exactly what causes the problem. There are actually two main causes for the "red ring of death". One of these is the common issue of overheating; you've probably noticed that your Xbox 360 would get very hot, very quickly whilst you were gaming. This is due to the fact that there aren't really enough cooling devices such as fans or heat-sinks inside the console. Too much heat rapidly builds up in a small area and then the console has to shut itself down and display the red lights, in order to warn you that something quite serious has gone wrong.

Another common reason you might have the red ring is due to a general hardware failure. This is where components such as memory chips, the graphics processor unit or the "X" clamps, which secure various parts in place, become loose or faulty. Loose components may be related somewhat to the problem of overheating as the constant expanding, then contracting (hot/cold) can cause problems.

Fixing the 3 flashing red lights on an Xbox 360 involves determining the exact cause of the problem on your console, and then repairing it without causing any damage to the components. All of this can be carried out using basic tools that can be found around the house, and in less than 2 hours. The only other thing that you will need is an Xbox 360 repair guide. Basically, a repair guide is a detailed collection of videos, images and written files on how to determine the cause of the error, and then fix it in a safe, reliable manner. They're not expensive (most cost around $30) especially when compared with the cost of buying a whole new Xbox 360. Don't think of trying to fix the red lights problem without one, as you will simply do more damage than good.

Sony PlayStation Really Did It Big

Sony Play Station a 32-bit video game console was produced by Sony Computer Entertainment in December 1994 marking a revolution in the field of video games. It was the first of the series of console and hand-held game devices. The PlayStation didn’t miss the chance to generate interest in the market with a lot of advertisement campaigns. The PlayStation logo was designed by Manabu Sakamoto, who also designed the logo for Sony's VAIO computer products. The PlayStation is considered as one of the longest production runs in the video game industry.

This electronic game console had to undergo a variety of variants including the gradual reduction in the number of external connectors on the unit. SCPH-900x series is the last revision to the original PlayStation with the same hardware

Early gamers used to experience skipping of full-motion video or dreaded physical "ticking" noises from the PlayStations. It was due to the poorly placed vents that caused overheating in the plastic moldings inside the console creating knock-on effects with the laser assembly. Later Sony came out with "Dual Shock", including a controller with 2 analog sticks and a built in force-feedback feature. Colored blue was another version of Sony Play station, followed by colored green. The PlayStation's capabilities were later expanded with the installation of a modchip, which allowed the playing of games from other regions.

Net Yaroze was introduced as another version of the PlayStation, which was much expensive. It was found to be lacking the features the full developer suite provided. The user found it difficult to officially make actual game discs as the amount of space was small. Sony launched the smallest version of its Play Station, PS one in 2000, which was about one-third smaller than the original PlayStation. Later it also released a small LCD screen and an adaptor that can be used in cars.

LG 37LG60 37-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV, Gloss Piano Black with Scarlet Red

LG 37LG60 37-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV, Gloss Piano Black with Scarlet Red Review

After trying to decide on which size television would best fit our entertainment center, I am glad I settled on this one. Initially I leaned toward a JVC 42" HDTV at Sams club. The physical size would have been tight in the Ent. Center we have. JVC didn't offer a 40" set so I looked at the LG brand. I am seeing them on many news broadcast stations in our area used as monitors at the various stations. Also we have several of them at my place of work. We had an AKAI which didn't last long. Also at our local hospital they have them throughout the different waiting areas. After reading the reviews and specs. I decided to go with the 37" LG. The one thing that was impressive was the high contrast ratio for the price. I have had the set for a little over a month and I enjoy the picture quality. The Standard broadcast channels do no justice to the set and I only prefer to watch the HD channels. Cons of this set are the sound. The internal speakers are not of that great of quality. I would like to hook it up to our Receiver but it only has inputs for analog signals. The LG set has digital audio outputs. Therefore you are forced to invest in a surround sound system with digital inputs. That I will probably do later. Right now I am looking for a good quality and priced blueray player. Overall it is a good set for the money and I would recommend it to anyone looking to buy a new HDTV. I researched Consumer reports first and looked at both quality and dependability. The Samsung sets were rated high for picture quality but had a high rate of service calls for repairs. The JVC set had a much lower rate for service problems. After owning a 32" JVC set that is 6 years old and having good luck with it that is why I leaned toward a JVC brand. My living room is 15' x 24' and the 37" set is just fine for viewing in our house. Personally I try to always buy American made products but, there aren't many sets manufactured here. Some are assembled here but not many.

Sony Playstation 3: Wholesale Myth?

It is interesting to see continued advertising of wholesale playstation 3 all across the Internet when the playstation in mid November of 2006. With the holidays being full step ahead on Internet sales- we must ask ourselves if there is really wholesale for the newly released PS3. The Internet is full of great people but as always- it has many downfalls when it comes to accurate information concerning wholesale.

You definitely need to understand that most of the time when there are giant companies like Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo and those competing for the video games console leadership, wholesale in release dates is most likely out of the question. Why? Ask yourself from whom major market profits are gained. Do profits with gaming consoles come from the sell of retail or do company profits come from wholesaling newly released items? If the immediate obvious answer is from the sell of retail, why would a company like Sony give approval for immediate wholesale on playstation 3 and its accessories?

Fortune 500 companies in the video games business make their primary money from retail, not from wholesale in release dates and on first fiscal years. Especially when various publications from authoritative sources like the Yankee Group estimates that Sony will probably lose $1.7 billion selling PS3s in its upcoming 2007 fiscal year. Can you imagine if the sell of wholesale playstation 3 will really hit the definition of wholesale anytime soon? Many of us do not think so.

Better yet, analyst for the Yankee Group also estimate that Sony spends from $700 to $800 to make PS3, thus creating a potential big time loss on every sale each time the consumer buys a PS3 on 2006 holidays and 2007 or, until PS3 developers consider some modifications if needed for its console developing process. Nonetheless, Sony gaming division will not return to a profitable standpoint until millions are sold and revenue from other hardware are then sold. So if this is to be considered as a fact, do you think wholesale is acceptable for big time companies like Sony, for today holidays season or for tomorrow 2007 year? I do not think so.

Next time you start think on hitting a search for a ps3 for this ending holiday season or for our next year, please think on how retail works in revenue and how wholesale really defines its word. The only way an eBay power seller see himself profiting from the sell of wholesale playstation 3 today, is just by buying them at regular retail prices and selling them to the mid-class and high class society at prices that are most likely not affordable to the regular consumer this days.

Sony BRAVIA VE5-Series KDL-46VE5 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz Eco-friendly LCD HDTV

Sony BRAVIA VE5-Series KDL-46VE5 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz Eco-friendly LCD HDTV Review

I generally agree with the reviews already here. This 46" HDTV replaced a 20-year old 21" CRT TV so needless to say I was a bit overwhelmed with the viewing experience after I got it up and running. (Unlike a previous reviewer, the delivery service Amazon used refused to deliver the TV past my garage door.) The assembly/wiring instructions provided with the TV were relatively straightforward. The only agonizing aspect of the setup was when it was searching for channels when the TV is first powered up; it took about 15 minutes. I've had it for about a week now and am immensely pleased with the product. It took a while to get used to watching a screen this large in my family room. I was planning on purchasing a smaller screen size, but I went with the guidelines with the product description on Amazon for 12 feet viewing distance. The HD channels available through my cable service (which provided an HDMI cable for me) look fantastic. The DVDs I've played look fantastic as well; I have it hooked up through the yellow Video 2 port (which from what I am told is the worst way to configure my DVD player which does support 1080p). Nevertheless, like I said it still looks great. I can't really evaluate the sound quality as I have the TV set up through my home theater system. When I have had the volume on the TV on, it didn't seem all that special. The TV seemed a bit pricey overall and only modestly less expensive to purchase from Amazon than from the sony.com website, but I think my investment overall was a worthy one. The Eco-friendly features were just icing on the cake as I always try and shop for energy-saving products. (And yes, I own a hybrid car too!) I would definitely recommend this TV.

Wholesale Playstation 3 - Crucial Facts

It is not possible to get brand new wholesale playstation 3 with the definition of true wholesale, from distributors online, period. Despite what many crooks would have you believe- if you try to get a PlayStation 3 in this way, the best scenario is that you will get it slightly cheaper than the retail price, but with a lot more hassle and worry.

The worst case is that you will not get your playstation 3, and some unscrupulous crook will get your money. Why? The first answer is simple market economics. The reason wholesale prices are low is because of the cost of dealing with individual customers.

Any company, which is selling to individuals- will have to encounter these higher costs- and so will not be able to offer wholesale prices.

The second reason is the shortage of units of wholesale playstation 3. Sony manufacturing centers in Japan and China have been unable to produce enough units to flood the market at its previous launch. Anybody who does have access to a PS3 today has a strong incentive to sell on to a retailer, who will be able to get a good price for them if viewed in the business perspective.

Finally, Sony exerts control over the pricing of the playstation 3 in the US market, as things are slightly different in Japan, where retailers are allowed to set their own prices. They have the legal and economic power to ensure that the ps3 is sold only for the official prices- that is, $499 for the standard version, and $599 for the premium version. Hopefully this gets through many entrepreneurial minds.

So, what are all these outlets offering the PS3 at wholesale prices for? Mostly, it is just a marketing gimmick as entrepreneurship standpoint. Some of them may really be wholesalers who are trying to break their agreement with Sony and sell the PS3 direct to customers.

If that is the case, they are likely to be in legal trouble fairly soon, and they are not good people to be trusted with your hard earned money, in the most likely event.

Where do you go if you cannot get the Sony PS3 at wholesale prices? Look for the best of the retailers. Their prices might seem a lot higher than those of the wholesalers, but in fact some will probably be offering bundles that give you good value for money.

You will probably be in the desire of getting extra games and controllers anyway, so why not let shops include them in the package for you? That is the way to get if you want to see it that way for this 2007 year as a wholesale playstation 3 instead of the many current distribution scams online.

Finding a Wholesale Playstation 3 online is one of the business components Joaquin serves as potential guide, e-commerce coach and certified author. His focus today is also assisting people receive extra income through the acquirement of profitable Wholesale PS3 re-selling opportunities

Plasma vs LCD - What To Look For In Your New TV

If you are looking for a flat screen TV one of the first things you have to consider is the type of technology that you want. The two options are Plasma or LCD. This article will examine the good and bad points of each technology and help you to make an informed choice when it comes to purchasing your new television set.

The principle behind Plasma technology is many tiny cells that are filled with xenon and neon gases. These cells are kept between two glass panels. When electric current is passed through the TV the gases in the cells are turned into plasma which in turn excites phosphors which emit light. The light is noted for it range and quality of colors.

LCD or liquid crystal display televisions work by varying the electric current between two electrodes using liquid crystals as a medium for passing the current. Liquid crystals are substances that can exist in the two states - liquid and solid crystal. By varying the voltage passed the liquid crystal colours can be modified and thus produce a picture.

LCD vs Plasma

The most important feature of a TV is the picture. In this respect most people agree that plasma produce better pictures for movies. This is because they have a higher black level ratio. This simply means there is more contrast between the blackest and whitest picture that a plasma screen can produce. This means pictures are clearer, especially in dark scenes.

Plasma screens tend to have a better viewing angle too. This means the picture will remain clear and undistorted at most angles of view from the televisions screen. This makes plasma screens more functional as home theater systems.

LCD televisions generally have more pixels per screen than a plasma equivalent. This means that the resolution of the picture will be better. This is more apparent with High Definition TV or movies. There will be more detail on the screen than a plasma.

Plasma TV's have often suffered from screen burn in. If a picture has been on the screen for a long period it will leave an after effect which is like a grayish outline of the picture or ghost of the original picture. This after picture will be permanently burned on the screen and can impact the quality of other images. LCD TV's do not suffer from this problem.

LCD televisions are also more efficient and will use less electricity to run than a plasma. LCD TV's are generally lighter so are easier to move.

The TV market is a huge and competitive industry so there are constant improvements in the technology. Many of the drawbacks of a particular technology are worked on and bettered each year. Plasma TV makers will tell you that burn in has been reduced in newer models. LCD TV makers will tell you that the black level ratio is increasing with each new model. Ultimately when it comes to plasma versus LCD, you need to get informed about some of the issues that differentiate the prices between the two rival technologies. In general, plasmas have been cheaper but this differential is slowly eroding.

Samsung LN32B360 32-Inch 720p LCD HDTV

Samsung LN32B360 32-Inch 720p LCD HDTV Review

After lots of careful research, I decided to go with this Samsung TV based on customer reviews and professional reviews. I am very glad to say that I am completely satisfied with this purchase. The picture is great and the inputs in the back are sufficient to satisfy the needs of a bedroom/office TV. Xbox 360, PC, Standard Def Cable, HDMI, all of the inputs necessary are available here. Granted, there is only really one, maybe two of each type of input, but likely you are not buying a 32in TV to be your media center in your living room. If you are, I would suggest either looking at a larger size or possibly the SONY - KDL series TV's. br /br /Either way, this is the bottom line: if you are in the market for the best bang-for-your-buck second TV, this is your best bet. Sony and Panasonic have some good TV's at this size and near this price range, but in my opinion, this TV has the best picture of the three. Another thing: do not worry about this set being 720p. 720p is plenty at this screen size, so save yourself some money and stick with a 720p/1080i TV. The only reason I could find to go with a 1080p 32in TV would be if you intend to use it as a computer monitor, but even that might be overkill for some people. In addition, you may want to check out the calibration settings for this TV on CNET.com. I used these setting and it makes the picture even richer.br /br /My final note: if you are thinking about buying a 32in TV, stop right now and buy this one. You will enjoy it. I bought this from amazon.com and they delivered the TV the very next day! I can't promise that you will have your TV delivered as quickly, but amazon gets an A++ from me in the customer service department!

Samsung LN32B360 32-Inch 720p LCD HDTV Feature

  • 32-inch high definition TV with 720p resolution
  • Two HDMI, one component, and one composite video input
  • Improved picture with 30,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, 8ms response time and Wide Color Enhancer 2 technology
  • Two 3W bottom speakers and SRS TruSurround HD for a rich surround-sound experience from two speakers
  • One-year parts and labor warranty

Samsung LN32B360 32-Inch 720p LCD HDTV Overview

This 32" HDTV offers a ton of brilliance, while fitting in perfectly with any living space. It sports Wide Color Enhancer 2 and SRS TruSurround HD technologies, and is ENERGY STAR compliant. With two HDMI inputs, one component-video input, a headphone jack, and even a PC input, the LN32B360 is a compact home theater experience waiting to happen.

Buying a New LCD TV - Read Our Handy Tips Buying Guide

Admit it. Buying a television is a major decision. You really don't feel the same about shelling out money for a TV as you would when buying a winter coat. Besides, you don't treat a TV in the same manner either - especially not if it's an LCD TV. If you're in the market to buy your very first LCD TV, here are some tips you might want to keep in mind:

Understand the technology.

LCD means liquid crystal display. It's the same stuff you see on calculators, handheld games, digital watches and computer monitors. The reason why they're so popular is that they are easy on the eyes, don't emit as much glare as older CRTs and are capable of producing sharp, clearer pictures with colors to match.

Find your size.

Bigger is not always better, although LCD TV screens are certainly not wimps in that department. If you want big, you can go as high as 52 inches for most brands or if you have something bigger in mind, Sharp offers a 65-inch living room wall filler.

However, before you get carried away with the promise of a spectacular home theater show, remember that size is relative. You do need to consider the available space in the room where you intend to put the TV. That is why it's prudent to measure the space first before you head out of the house.

LCD TVs that range in size from 15 to 19 inches will work well in smaller rooms such as bedrooms and kitchens. Mid-sized screens starting at 26 inches up to 37 inches are good choices for living rooms, dens and some bedrooms. If you go higher starting at 40 inches, you better have at least 5 feet of viewing space between you and the TV.

Remember, too, that size is relative to price. If you want to buy bigger LCD TVs, be prepared to pay premium, particularly for top brands. You could, however, save a lot if you opt for lesser-known brands or discounted sets.

What you'll like: no matter how big you go, LCD TVs won't be heavier than a supermodel. They're as light as they are thin, which means you won't have a lot of problems in case you want to move them around in your home in the name of good interior design. Watch your budget.

Budget is a huge deciding factor when buying an LCD TV so make sure to shop around for the best deal before you make your final pick. Better yet, read magazines or go online to manufacturers' and retailers' websites to find out which brands sell what with which features. This will help educate you on what specs to look for.

Look for information on resolution, picture quality, refresh rate and viewing angle, among others. Although these specs shouldn't place an overwhelming influence on you, at least you'll know what to expect when you're out there facing a very enthusiastic salesperson. This will also help you maintain the budget you set.

Test the unit.

Unless you've made a decision based on specs alone or the recommendation of a friend, you might want to head off to the electronics store and check out the LCD TV before buying it. Look at the screen and determine if the image impresses you. Move forward and away from the screen, go to the sides to find how wide the viewing angle is and test the audio. Ultimately, an LCD TV is simply a large gadget - it should perform for your viewing pleasure and no one else's.

Discount LCD TV is a consumer electronics website which stocks the latest plasma and LCD widescreen televisions from the major manufacturers. We have plenty of information and advice for buyers on what to look for before you buy an LCD TV.
